ADHD & ASD Assessment Process
We understand that there can be a long and difficult wait period when pursuing a formal diagnosis of ADHD or ASD, so we aim to streamline the Assessment process as best as we can. We take a few steps in order to best understand your case, and provide you with a formal report and diagnostic picture. This process can be undertaken entirely online, however we do recommend clients visit our clinic for the interview portions of the assessment.
How it works
There are a few steps that need to be taken in order to arrive at an accurate understanding of your presentation;
Step 1:
If you haven't done so already, we recommend first seeing your GP for their initial impression on the possibility of ADHD or ASD in your case. Although a GP referral is NOT required to commence the assessment process, it is helpful to have their involvement in your general care, and possible referrals to specialists.
Step 2:
Contact us via phone, email ,or via our online form here to start the process. We will provide you with a detailed explanation of the assessment process and provide an estimation of costs and time frames for your assessment and report.
Step 3:
Once you have booked in for your assessment a brief screener will be emailed to you for you to complete prior to your first appointment. This first appointment will consist of a 90 minute intake session where the psychologist will ask you questions about your concerns, abilities, strengths, difficulties, challenges and developmental history.
Step 4:
After your initial appointment you will be required to complete some psychometric tests which are designed to specifically identify either ADHD or ASD in the adult population. We typically require these test to be conducted by you, and at least one other person that has a good knowledge of you, such as a parent, a partner, or long term friend. These test are conducted electronically and can be completed at home at a time that suits you.
Step 5:
Once the online testing is completed, your psychologist will take the time to carefully collate and interpret all the data from the screening, interview, and testing to develop an accurate understanding of your presentation. They will then formulate and compile a written report including a diagnostic perspective and recommendations.
Step 6:
A final feedback session is booked approximately 2-3 weeks after your online testing is completed. During this session your psychologist will provide you with the written report along with feedback regarding the findings and recommendations.
